The symbolism of spinelessness
The failure of the village men to tackle the dragon symbolizes spinelessness despite training hard on how to fight. Vanyel proves his tutor and all men wrong when he kills the dragon and faces the evil wizard with courage. Vanyel saved the entire village from killings and destruction.
The symbol of self-love
Aunt Sivil is a symbol of self-love. After realizing that Vanyel is not good at poetry, she encourages him to do what he loves most. Therefore, Vanyel gets the confidence of making himself appealing and learns to love himself. Later, Vanyel discovers that he is gay.
The dragon and the evil wizard
The dragon and the evil wizard symbolize the dark forces that threaten the annihilation of the village. The people in the village are scared, including men, and they wait for their ending. Luckily, Vanyel comes to their rescue.
Sacrifice
Vanyel is an emblem of sacrifice in society. When Vanyel returns from the Hawkbrither community, he encounters a dragon terrorizing his village. Using his fighting skills, Vanyel kills the dragon. However, later on, Vanyel is faced with the biggest test in his life when the evil wizard attacks the village. Vanyel chooses to sacrifice his life and face the evil wizard. Therefore, Vanyel is a symbol of sacrifice.
