Why do you think the author placed the vanishing of the ship immediately before the killing of the pig?

The killing of the Pig was their first successful hunt. It validated Jack's position of hunter and the primal delights he offered. This is juxtaposed with the ship leaving. The ship represented Ralph's world of civilization and rescue.
