Martin Luther King does not compare himself to being an outsider. In fact, he gives detailed reasons as to why he should not be called an outsider. King makes it very clear that he was invited to Birmingham, that as a United States citizen he is not an outsider anywhere within the United States, and that the SCLC has distinct and historical ties in Birmingham. He also reminds then that the events in Birmingham create broad repurcussions around the country.
