Who, or what, do you interpret the “they” to be in story?
House Taken Over is an example of magical realism. The interpretation of who "they" might be is widely interpreted. From the text, we can infer that "they" do not actually exist, but rather, a figment of the imagination. It is widely believed that Cortázar’s main characters are schizophrenic, that the brother and sister suffer from this disorder, which makes it difficult for them to distinguish between what is real and unreal.
