Lt. Stranger actually wants Johnny's horse, though Johnny cannot be forced to give him up. Stranger likes the horse, and likes Johnny, though he will not publicly admit it. The Lieutenant enjoys teaching Goblin and Johnny to jump because it's the one way he can ride him.
