What was James' plan to save everyone from the shark?

In Chapter 20, James announces that he needs as much string as possible. He reveals that he plans to lure the seagulls towards the peach with Earthworm, then loop the strings around the seagulls' necks and tie them to the stem of the peach. If he can do this with hundreds of seagulls, he thinks that the birds will lift the peach up into the air with the power of their wings.
