Why did Krakauer agree to climb Everest when he felt such disdain for what the climb had become?

Krakauer was hired by the magazine Outside to cover Dick Bass' climb. Bored with sitting around at the camp, he began to train. Then, the magazine decided to subsidize the climb. Thus..... he climbed.
