I think knowing when not to risk your life is the main one. Not letting one's obsession cloud rational judgment is a theme in any high-risk endeavour. All of these climbers knew the risks of a late descent yet did it anyway.
Have a well articulated plan A. Make sure everyone knows what it is.
Have a contingency plan
Keep everyone apprised of what the plans are and when they change.
Make sure everyone is comfortable with the plan(s) and knows the trigger points for change in plan.
Make sure there are ways to communicate the plan (radios, etc.)
