How did Krakauer's attitude about encountering dead climbers rapidly change?

I am not sure and cant find this in the book

Krakauer became desensitized to them over time because he started seeing so many of them. The first body shocked him for several hours; the next one he affected him for less time: finally he was no longer shocked. Most of the other climbers simply pretended the bodies were not real to assuage their own fears.
