were you surprised that mccandless left trails so that the authorities could find out who he was? explain why or why not

I cannot say I was surprised. I think Chris had a lot of mixed emotions about what he was doing, regardless of his determination to do it. I also don't believe that Chris would have continued his estrangement from his family if he'd lived. Chris wasn't in hiding..... he merely wished to disappear and tackle a way of life that intrigued him.
