What was different about the White River arena? Why is Saul laughed at?

The White River Arena was warm, had change rooms, and looked polished. It was a change from their make-shift ice rinks but it lacked the romanticism of them. Saul was laughed at because he is so small and looks like he is drowning in the old hockey sweater he has on.
