What do you think Benjamin was suffering from? How is this a metaphor for aboriginal history?

Benjamin appears to be suffering from Tuberculosis that he no doubt acquired from the Indian government school. This is a metaphor for the European diseases that wiped out much of the Aboriginal populations when they settled in the new world. Natives just didn't have immunity to white diseases.
