How are Immigrants portrayed in this book?

I believe they are portrayed as cheap labourers, hardworking and friendly

The immigrants are portrayed as extremely hardworking people who work to help build the country (specifically Toronto). These people never feel as if they belong, and they are ignored in the history books, but without their contributions the city might not be what it has become.
