In achieving the mood on the film, Wong leaned towards Latin America aesthetic, in that the elements of suffering, passion, jealousies and family values. He saw the similarities the Chinese particularly women had with Latin Americans. Furthermore incorporating Latin music which was also popular at the time in Hong Kong. In regards to the title which is also musically inspired, Wong borrowed from Bryan Ferry’s “In the Mood for Love”. Moreover being in part, as Wong states, that the characters are driven to each other by the film’s mood.
