What information about Perry’s change in testimony do we also learn in the courtroom?

Perry asks to change his statement before signing it. He claims that he now wants to tell the truth: that he was responsible for killing the Clutter family and that Dick had nothing to do with the killing of Mrs. Clutter or the rape and killing of Nancy Clutter. Perry does this to spare Dick's mother any more sorrow than she already has.
