If the reader knows the muderers from the beginning of In Cold Blood, how can we still call it a suspense story?

Yes, knowing their identities is only a small part of the story. The suspense can be found in "who" these men were, their pasts, their idosyncracies, and why what they intended to be a robbery became the slaughter of an innocent family.
