What does it mean to Malala’s message When the New York Times want to interview her father as well as herself?

Initially, the documentary was supposed to be based on an interview and clips of Malala's father. Although, he was nervous about the camera's being seen, he believed that "this could be our megaphone to the outside world." After meeting and speaking with Malala, they decided to focus on her views..... her father's support was essential.
