Frustrated and angry, he cries out to God and blames Him for being trapped, but then remembers what Johannes once told him about the necessity for a person to take responsibility for himself. A person should rely onthemselves first. David realizes that by allowing the farmer to lock him in, God is teaching him to do exactly that. With that, he formulates a plan to escape, using an old knife to cut through the wall of the barn and digging through the snow on the other side to make a tunnel.
