IS DARKNESS A CONCEPT A UNIVERSAL HUMAN CONDICTION

I don't think the darkness is universal condition rather than unique to these European colonists. As Marlow travels up the Congo there is a literal darkness but the metaphorical darkness of the pilgrims and even Kurtz leaves Marlow sickened. These people systematically use the land and it's people until there is little left but destruction and misery.
