Haroun and the Sea of Stories

Please explain what this quote said by Blabbermouth shows.

“You think it’s easy for a girl to get a job like this? Don’t you know girls have to fool people every day of their lives if they want to get anywhere? You probably had your whole life handed to you on a plate, probably got a whole mouth full of silver spoons, but some of us have to fight.” (pg 107)

Blabbermouth is addressing gender roles, the difficulties she faces merely because she is a girl. She is talking about the way she's had to "appear" a certain way and act a certain way in order to gain approval.... that she's had to fight for everything that she has accomplished, and ultimately, she proves herself to be jealous of things she doesn't understand. She makes assumptions about Haroun, and she proves herself to be almost as judgmental as those around her.
