Both want Hamlet to stop mourning for his father. They point out that everybody eventually loses their father and that Hamlets obstinate sorrow is not what God wants. Hamlet muses about how they are not really sad like him. He thinks the king and queen are merely showing they are sad over Hamlet Sr's death.
