Pip's reactions
I am going to assume that you are referring to Ch. 33. At first Pip pretends not to know what place it is when Estella questions him. Perhaps it is a topic Pip feels that is beneath tender Estella to even comprehend. Earlier in the last in Ch 32 Pip muses, "I thought of the beautiful young Estella, proud and refined, coming towards me, and I thought with absolute abhorrence of the contrast between the jail and her."
