Goethe's Faust
Mephistopheles Answer to Faust
I was wondering if anyone knew why Mephistopheles did not tell Faust about who created the world? I understand he was forbidden from answering that question but why?

That would mean that Mephistopheles would have had to admit that God created the world which would make the Devil look weaker.
^I don't know if that really answers the question. It is already assumed by everyone who believes in a creator, that the creator is God. So why would the devil look weaker if Mephistopheles gave an answer that was already assumed? That makes no sense. I truly wonder what Goethe had in mind.
