How was Vincent treated differently as jerome

Jerome had lived his whole life knowing he was engineered to be an athletic swimmer, and when he was unable to meet his own standards and became disabled he felt as if he failed not only himself but also society. As he is no longer fit to do all he has ever known, he has no motivation or drive to move on. As his disabled status has essentially made him become an invalid, he would not be respected as he once was. Vincent was treated poorly and was excluded due to his invalid status, and so was seen as a lesser member of society, despite his natural intellect. Vincent was only treated well, and had his intellect acknowledged once he physically and genetically appeared to be valid.
