Why does Nick ask Mrs. Granger a question at the end of class on the first day of school? How does she outsmart him?

Nick asks a million questions in order to stall Mrs. Granger.... he wants to avoid homework. Ironically, she turns the tables and tells him he must finds the answers to his questions.... for homework.
