Why did Bridgitte Vandeventer have to go to the local junior college?

Bridgette Vandeventer was the most popular girl in school. She was the stereotypical girl you see in movies, and on television shows. She was on the cheerleading team, and was the homecoming queen, something that all young girls dream about being someday. She dated one of Permian's star football players, Brian Chavez, which she thought was "neat", and every time she saw Brian on the field she felt proud to say "that is my boyfriend." Bridgette had many ambitions in her life, but she was only going to a junior college in Odessa because she didn't take her college entrance exams during the football season because she was afraid it would interfere with her duties as a cheerleader.
