Farewell to Manzanar

Why are collaborators or informers often objects of hatred and fear?

Jeanne believes that being accused of collaborating is particularly painful for “a man raised in Japan.” What does she mean? Would it be as painful for someone raised in the United States?

The collaborators and informers were seen as traitors to their people. As a result, they were hated and feared.
