why did there seem to be a low value placed on human life?

The characters in Fahrenheit 451 have been dehumanized. Every day is the same....... relationships are cold and unfeeling, televisions are family, and life is emotionless; it has no purpose. Why value a life that doesn't know and never has known what it is to really live?
