Can you give an argument that Beatty actually hated the society he lived in?

The character of Beatty is a paradox. Beatty wanted to die: he wanted Montag to kill him with the flamethrower. Beatty knew about books and literature almost as if he loved them yet part of his psyche hated them. Beatty could not handle this conflict.
