Part 4 of the book
Part 4 of the book
Montag attempts to engage the women in an actual conversation. They are confused, they can't relate to anything of substance. After they leave, Montag realizes that he is two people,
"Now he knew that he was two people, that he was above all Montag, who knew nothing, … And he knew that he was also the old man who talked to him and talked to him as the train was sucked from one end of the night city to the other on one long sickening gasp of motion."
Montag realizes that he wants to read books, he wants to learn. He now understands Faber. Montag refuses to live in the world these vacuous women live in.
