Why did the papaya delivery man bother Esperanza so much?

Esperanza is not so much bothered by Senior Rodriguez, as she is devastated by what she has to tell him. Rodriguez is looking for Esperanza's father, and she is left to tell him about her father's death.

Because Esperanza's papa would order them every year for her birthdays and since he was dead, it reminded her of him and she had to tell Mr. Rodriguez what had happened to him which made it even worse talking about her own father's death.
