Clothing reflected status and personality. Mama and Esperanza, for example, wore silk dresses and slippers. Mama even wore her hair in a braided crown. Although stylish, this was impractical for a ranch or farm. One could tell that they were high in the social class order of things. The servants on the ranch were called campesinos. They wore more practical clothing like bandanas to shield them from the sun.
