Esperanza

Esperanza was devastated by the loss of her father and their home. She missed her grandmother, she worried about her mother. Esperanza also had a difficult time accepting her new role in society.... casting away her upper-class upbringing and taking up her new role in the working class. Over the course of the novel, however, Esperanza learns to move on. She grows up, accepts responsibility, and learns to understand the difficulties of those not as fortunate.... she even embraces them.
