esparanza rising

Esperanza's home is burned down, and her mother decides that she and Esperanza will accompany Hortensia, Alfonso, and Miguel to the United States. To protect the women from bandits and from Tío Luis, Esperanza, Mama, and Hortensia all hide in the secret compartment at the bottom of the wagon, covered with guavas, while Miguel and Alfonso ride on top. After arriving at the station. the family travels to the United States by train.
