What exactly is ender having to sacrifice?

Ender sacrifices a lot. He sacrifices growing up with his parents and Valentine, getting away from Peter seems to be a plus. Ender loses his innocence, he misses out on the emotional stages of maturation. Although he is a war hero at the end of the book, his social skills have been manipulated for warfare. That's a pretty hard life to live when there is no enemy.
