Do you believe, as Valentine does, that when Peter weeps and shows weakness, he is being sincere? Or do you believe he is manipulating Valentine?

Peter is all about manipulation. The guy tortures squirrels! At this point in the novel I think Peter still has an insidious agenda and Valentine works into his plan.
