Who is Mere in "Empire of Wild" by Cherie Dimaline?

Mere is Joan's grandmother, who is killed by a rogarou. She lived in a camper near Joan's house and was a very traditional woman, who continously reminded her grandchildren about the importance of keeping tradition. Mere was angry when she learned of Junior's plan to work in the mines and threatened to cut off his braid.
