What is Wagner's role in the play of "Doctor Faustus "?

Wagner is Faustus' helper and companion. In certain capacities he serves as a partial narrator (the chorus is really the closest we get to a narraotr) describing Faustus' actions..... particularly, Faustus' travel through the heavens.
