Tocqueville believed in American exceptionalism and the ability for everyone who worked hard to achieve financial independence. He was the first explore the concept of the American Dream, and he noted that immigrants from all stations of life had the opportunity to work their way up in the world. He also noted that rather than resenting their wealthy neighbors, hard-working Americans believed that they too could achieve similar fortune.
