James Steerforth is a haughty, cocky boy consumed with his upper-class status. Agnes immediately picks up bad vibes on this guy. Agnes is as close to religious as Dickens gets. She is moral and upright: she doesn't like this guy. She tells David that Steerforth is a "dangerous friend".
