How do the robbers outsmart grandpa

Grandpa is able to disarm the robbers, but his desire to let them know how serious he is backfires. Grandpa shoots the robbers' gun twice in warning, not knowing they only have two bullets in the gun. Thus the robbers, who know the gun has been rendered useless, attack Grandpa and beat him.
