So many men had arrived at the Klondike that Francois and Perrault immediately received new orders, and were told to sell of their dogs and replace them with fresh ones. Two men from the States, Charles and Hal, buy the dogs and the sled very cheaply. The dogs are in wretched shape. Charles and Has are incompetent and inexperienced.
