Physically Bernard doesn't look like other Alphas. He is smaller in stature. People speculate alcohol put in his blood-surrogate when he was in the bottle. Personally Bernard differs in that he thinks differently than other Alphas. He doesn't blindly follow the ideology of the state. He dislikes Obstacle Golf and likes to be alone.
