Tony is mesmerised by Ultimam as she represents the spirit world, which fascinates him. Ultima opens up the possibilities of the mystic life for Tony. Tony's mother, on the other hand, represents the pragmatic Catholicism that Tony resists. She wants Tony to be a priest, but he finds the idea stagnating.
