What Causes griffin to abandon his “blackness” in the Atlanta bus station?

On the way to Mississippi, the bus stops in a small town for a break. The whites are allowed to get off the bus, stretch, use the bathroom...where as the blacks are forced to remain on the bus. On blacke man protests by urinating on the bus.
