Why were Cain's descendants cursed?

Cain and Abel are two sons of Adam and Eve in Genesis 4:1-2. Cain ends up killing his brother Abel making him the first human born and the first murderer. This, by many, is considered "original sin" hence all Cain's descendants (in Beowulf at leased) being cursed.
