the fight between beowulf and grendel what epic characteristic is displayed by beowulf
The epic hero is always ready to outsmart his opponent, and indeed the fight between those two does just that. Beowulf plays "dead" until Grendel reaches for him. At that point Beowulf grabs his army and ultimately pulls the arm out of the socket so that he can hang it in the mead hall above the door to show his conquering mentality. He is wise, strong, and is able to defeat Grendel with his bare hands.
