How did the writer describe Kino’s hand? Why do you think the writer raised this point?

"......it was the hand he had smashed against the doctor's gate, and the torn flesh of the knuckles was turned grayish white by the sea water."

Kino had gone from being completely defeated to a place of victory....... his hand was evidence of the battle.
