Act Three in An Inspector Calls
Act Three in An Inspector Calls
Eric stands looking at the assembled company as before. Before he starts his interrogation, Eric asks for a drink—a request to which the Inspector agrees—and which Birling denies. Eric’s heavy drinking is now no secret, and the Inspector explains to Birling that Eric “needs a drink now just to see him through.” The Inspector, more quickly than before, sets about interrogating Eric. Eric is nervous and unsteady. Eric has little resistance against the inspector’s sharp questioning.
