Changing the name of the business will symbolically distance himself from his own role in shipping the faulty airplane parts. Joe feels it might give him some separation for all the stuff that has gone on in the past. Both Joe and Kate are worried that George's visit will re-open old wounds that are kept hidden away.

Much of this has to do with Joe's denial at any wrong doing in the past. Keller claims that no one talks about the case any more, because when he got out of prison he walked down the street with his head held high. Keller expresses puzzlement that George is calling from Columbus, where his father's prison is. Keller is suspicious that George and Ann are trying to open up the case again, and Chris is angered by the insinuation. Joe Keller really wishes to avoid the whole topic of George if he can help it.
